Technically speaking, Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) has the computer technology to create near photo realistic computer animation to make the classic Star Wars movies equal to the mind warping and extraordinary Star Wars prequels. The real problems are time and money.

Creating visual special effects with computers is still prohibitively expensive. It would cost around $ 170 million to $ 200 million U.S. dollars to upgrade the classic Star Wars trilogy with computer animation to make the ancient Star Wars equal to the Star Wars prequel trilogy because you would need to upgrade, improve and replace every single special effects shot from the Star Wars classics.
