Star Wars 5 Overly Boring
9. Why does The Empire Strikes Back feature ONLY one large scale and expensive action sequence battle?
Star Wars was a movie idea many, many decades before its time. It wasn't possible to make true Star Wars films back in the late 1970's and early 1980's, which explains why the classic Star Wars movie episodes don't compare favorably when directly compared to the perfection of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Back in the olden times of Star Wars, special effects technology of Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) could accomplish two techniques:
1. Stop motion animation
2. Star ships moving in space with explosions
Basically, that was it. You could move some lame garbage crap muppet or miniature model one frame at a time, which is known as stop motion animation or you could show some low budget space craft hurtling through the Star Wars galaxy with a few explosions. George Lucas didn't have digital computer animation back when he created the classic Star Wars motion pictures. The only special effects shots you see in Star Wars Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back are tiny AT AT Imperial Walker models at the Battle of Hoth and TIE fighters and star destroyers chasing the Millennium Falcon.
Very, very extremely atrocious and terrible by today's most excellent standards. The near photo realistic computer animation the audience takes for granted today was pioneered by ILM for movies like Jurassic Park by Steven Spielberg. The spectacular Jar Jar Binks was impossible to make with the pathetic special effects techniques Lucas had to work with in 1980. Also, The Empire Strikes Back was on a microscopic financial production budget, which means even if computer animation had existed Lucas couldn't have afforded to implement it because Lucas had little money to work with while filming The Empire Strikes Back.
If Lucas hadn't been the greatest film creator of all time ever in history, then you can imagine The Empire Strikes Back being EVEN WORSE if such were even possible. Modern Star Wars fans find it difficult to watch The Empire Strikes Back because the Imperial Walkers on Hoth don't look real at all. Eventually, Lucas will have to replace all the special effects shots from the Star Wars classics with computer animation when it is cost effective to make such a massive and drastic improvement to the ancient Star Wars movies. We must pray constantly without ceasing that this moment will occur soon.
