George Lucas Under Extreme Pressure

4. Why didn't George Lucas write the script screenplay for Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back?

The basic story idea for Star Wars Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back was created by George Lucas, the genius mastermind behind the magic of Star Wars. However, the actual screenplay script was written by the late Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan, who also wrote Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi. All fans agree that the best and greatest Star Wars movie episodes are the ones written solely and only by Lucas.

The three most financially successful, critically acclaimed and lucrative Star Wars films are written by Lucas and Lucas alone:

Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace (1999)

Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope (1977)

The less successful Star Wars movies in all ways that can be measured had third party script writers involved:

Star Wars Episode 2 Attack of the Clones (script writer Jonathan Hales)

The Empire Strikes Back (screenplay authors Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan)

Return of the Jedi (Lawrence Kasdan)

Star Wars fans are deeply disappointed beyond description that Lucas didn't write the script for The Empire Strikes Back similar to how Lucas wrote the amazing, mind stunning screenplay for A New Hope. The main reason Lucas claims for not writing The Empire Strikes Back script is because Lucas literally didn't have enough time to spend several months penning a Star Wars sequel script.

Lucas was desperate to get The Empire Strikes Back completed by May of 1980. A mere three years after the cinematic theatrical release date of A New Hope in May of 1977. Lucas will readily admit today that one of the worst decisions of his life was not penning the screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back.

However, there's nothing Lucas can do to correct these disastrous and appalling errors because not even Lucas is intelligent enough to control time travel technology. Our prayers were answered when Lucas wrote and directed each episode of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The extreme tragedy of The Empire Strikes Back will NEVER be repeated again.
