Absence of Great Action
10. Why are there no elaborate and massive star fights between X Wings vs. Tie fighters during Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back?
There are several imperative reasons why the disappointing Star Wars Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back features ABSOLUTELY no massive, large scale and expensive space battles or star fights between Rebel Alliance X Wings vs. Imperial Tie Fighters. First, Lucas had no available money to fund extensive action sequences for The Empire Strikes Back. This is exactly why the only major action scene of The Empire Strikes Back is the Battle of Hoth involving the AT AT Imperial Walkers. It was possible only because producing stop motion animation of the AT AT vehicles cost practically no money to make.
Second, the overly ingenious top secret Star Wars plot script formula requires action sequences in space, but it doesn't require these action scenes to be spectacular star battles similar to the stunning death star battle from the unparalleled Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope or the mesmerizing Battle of Endor involving the second death star from the masterpiece of film making called Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi.
Third, George Lucas usually saves the best action sequences for the third and final episode of each Star Wars movie trilogy. A close examination of Return of the Jedi reveals it has more intense action scenese than both A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back combined together. This is due to the fact that Return of the Jedi has the highest production budget of any Star Wars movie episode from the Star Wars classic trilogy. Likewise, Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith has tons more action sequences than both the perfect Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace and mind blowing Star Wars Episode 2 Attack of the Clones.
In the end, the only action scenes in space from The Empire Strikes Back feature boring shots of Imperial probe droids launched from star destroyers and extremely low budget and disillusioning action sequences of the Millennium Falcon being endlessly and repetitively chased by the Empire for much of The Empire Strikes Back. It must be admitted Irvin Kershner (Kersh), the movie director of The Empire Strikes Back, created the best cure for insomnia in the history of the Universe. If you can't sleep, then watch se7en seconds of The Empire Strikes Back. Congratulations to Kersh because he finally discovered something he can succeed at for once in his life.
